Has Business Blogging Gone ‘Quackers’?

Rather than wax not particularly lyrically about character blogs, maybe you’d care to look for yourself as to who’s saying what about them:

Steve Rubel: Character Blogs are a Complete Waste of Time

Good Basic: Character Blogs Send The Wrong Message

Marketing Roadmaps: Character Blogs

Marketing Studies: Character Blogs as a Branding Vehicle: An Essay On the Use of Character Blogs to Extend the Brand

B.L. Ochman: Character Blogs Aren’t Inherently Evil. So Why Are So Many So Lame?

Dr. Quack: We’re All Fake Blog Characters Dr. Quack also interviews the Moose.

There’s the whole spectrum on the issue in the above posts. I’m going to ask this question for everyone, but especially for Robert’s students.

What do you think?

I promise that nobody will get their heads bitten off by my good self, or Steven either. ;-)

In fact, it’s your comments box. Pretend we’re not here.

  1. I’m sure some will think you are beating this topic to death, but really, a tsunami of anti-blog pollution is threatening to undermine and wipe out, not the current blogs that are good, but the mind-sets that will determine future blogs.
I mean, never before in Blog History have so many negative events hit the blogosphere, and I mean character blogs, link farm blogs, ghost blogs, clique blogs, code blogs, crypto blogs, drivel blogs, commercial hype blogs, pseudo simulated blogs, etc.
I will define and explain all these later in a post. See my “Anti-Blogs and the Bloatosphere” here at BLOGthenticity for starters.
We who love what real, authentic blogs can be and can do…we are being challenged, this is our 40 days in the wilderness, “if you be a power blogger, turn this blog into bread (money)”.
Trials, tribulations, tests of how serious we are when we say BLOG plus Authenticity, Passion, Credibility, Originality, Honesty, Transparency.
The insincere are rapidly abandoning the Core Values of Effective Business Blogging. Sound like anything else? How about Enron, Worldcom, Martha Stewart, etc. Abandoning values, a trend that is being exposed and punished in this world at this time.
BLOGthenticity is not perfect. We are no Blog Angels. But it is exciting to be part of a force that is resisting the flood of compromise, deception, and unprofessionalism.
